P-N Junction When N-Type and P-Type materials are placed next to each other, they form a P-N junction. The boundary area between the two materials will have an accumulation of electrons from the N-Type material and a lack of electrons in the rest of the material. The electrons are attracted to the boundary area by the positive charges in the P-Type material. When electromotive force is applied to the materials with a negative polarity to the N-Type material, the electrons will be repelled by the negative force and cross the P-N junction and continue through the P-Type material and out the other side.
