Testing Transistors Testing Bi-Polar Transistors Testing transistors is much like testing diodes. Think of a transistor as being two diodes connected together at the transistor's base. Transistors should be tested two different ways. A resistance check from base to emitter and from base to collector in both directions. Forward biased should show a very high resistance, reverse biased diodes should show "OL". A barrier voltage check (diode test feature) in both directions.
