Ruth Lee February 2, 2012 The Galilean View: A Democratic Framework Notes Philosophy of Physics - Common Grounds o “The marking of an event [is] something which can be seen by all.” o “People will not have their own ‘personal set of events’ or their ‘personal space- time’” - First scenario (but all with the same perspective – us) o Two groups: one with badges/watches distributed, the other going moving past or going through the first group There would be a single vertical world-line of individual in our group There would be multiple world-lines of individuals in other groups which would be parallel o The other group would snap their fingers at the same time at t=0 (our watches also say t=0 because we have the same time as them) o If we are still and see them move past us, they are moving. However, if they are actually still and we seem like we are moving to them, then we are moving. -
