Unformatted text preview: 1 ECE 201 Lecture 7 Announcements Test on next Thur. 9/14, 8 days from now. Test covers Lectures 1-9 Review Session: Mon. 9/11, 7-9pm WTHR 200 It would be good to review Matlab and Linear Algebra (read Appendix A1, p954~960). 2 Summary of previous lecture Dependent sources as 3-terminal active devices; Active elements introduce novel circuit behaviors, such as negative resistance; Non-ideal sources and their models; Simplifying circuit topologies. 3 In this lecture We learn how to write down equations (KCLs, KVLs and Ohms laws) for a circuit systematically ; First we need to know the unknowns: all branch currents and branch voltages; Identify the number of independent variables, and write down the same number of independent equations, no more and no less. 4 Nodes, Branches and Loops 5 nodes 8 branches 4 loops (4 unknown loop currents) Select one node as the reference V reference =0 (typically the one with the largest number of connections) Assign all other nodes a voltage (4 unknown node voltages Branch voltages: V jk =V j-V k 5 3A R1 2 R2 5 R3 1 2A G A B Ex 1: Determine V A and V B ....
