Unit 2: Afro Eurasian World c.400CE-c.155CE China after the fall of the Han Dynasty (Sui-Tang-Song) -After collapse of the Han Dynasty, China became divided into 2 sections: Northern China and Southern China -Period of Division- lasted about 400 years -Spread of Buddhism in both north and south China Sui Dynasty (581-618) -emperors of Sui dynasty built a strong centralized government but at a great human and financial cost ~Buddhism was unification of N. and S. China ~Grand Canal -another mechanism of uniting China -connected Yellow River(in the North) and the Yangtze River (in the South) ~Sui Wundi -started the Grand Canal project ~Sui Yangdi -son of Sui Wundi -wanted to go to war to expand territory -liked construction projects -asked all men, women, and children to work on construction to show his power -because of Yangdis abuse, he lost his reign from rebellion Tang Dynasty (618-907) -much more successful dynasty -considered one of the greatest ages in Chinese history • Suzerainty over neighbors
