Beforewetakealookattheindividualcollaborativetools,whatiscollaborationanyway?Often,thefirst thingpeoplethinkofissharingandworkingtogetherinagroup.Herearesomeotherideas: 9 Twoormorepeopleattempttolearnsomethingtogether Learnersengageinacommontaskwheretheydependoneachotherandareaccountableto eachother Theconstructionofsharedmeaningsforconversations,conceptsandexperiences Figuringouthowtoagree,disagreeandnegotiate Groups Moodlehasauniquewayofmanagingsmallworkgroups,withtheintentionofofferingasmuch flexibilityaspossible.Youmaywant: everyonetoworkonthesameassignmentinonebiggroup smallgroupstoworkonthesameassignmentwiththeabilitytoseewhatothergroupsare doing smallgroupstoworkonthesameassignmentwithnowaytoseewhatothergroupsaredoing Thereisalogicalprocesstocreatinggroupactivities: 1. Definethegroupsatthecourselevel 2. Assignagroupmodetoeachactivity Thinkofagroupasafilter.Ifyouareamemberofagroup,thenMoodlecanfilteroutworkfrom anyonewhoisnotpartofyourgroup.Allgroupsparticipateinthesameactivity,butstudentscan't interactwithanyonenotinthesamegroup. Note:Theinstructorhasaccesstoallgroupsandshouldneverbeplacedinagroup. GroupModes Therearethreegroupmodes: Nogroups:Everyoneparticipatestogether.Groupsarenotused. However,ifyouwillbeusingMoodleforgroups,thereareseveralreasonsforchangingthegroupmode atthelevelofthecoursesite. Group mode No Groups Collaborative There is only one wiki. The teacher and all students can view and edit this wiki. Individual Every student has their own wiki that only they and their teacher can view and edit. Separate Groups There is one wiki per group. Students can view and edit the wiki of their own group only. Wiki type Every student has their own wiki, which only they and their teacher can edit.
