However, various readings and support materials may be posted on Bb Vista. Course Description: UNIV 101 is an introduction to Drexel in particular and to living and working as part of the community we form together in the College of Arts and Sciences. Think of this course as your “homeroom,” the place where you can relax a bit and talk about your issues. It is also a place to get valuable information about how Drexel, CoAS and the Department of Biology work so that you can make your education here work for you. Course Purpose within the Program of Study: This is a required course that is intended to serve as a foundation for important skills and resources you will need as a Biology major. Through this course, students will learn about: the basic structure of the Biology major, time management skills, how to effectively research the scientific literature, how to schedule classes, how to network, academic honesty issues, University and departmental learning priorities and how to effectively work in a group. Students will also meet a number of people who could be important to their training, including: a Biology faculty member, a peer mentor, the science librarian, their advisor, the Co-Op coordinator, and the Pre- Professional Health Advisor. Statement of Expected Learning: As a result of this course, students will: 1. Develop skills and strategies to manage their transition to college. 2. Learn about the requirements and learning priorities of the Biology major. 3. Learn about campus resources that support their education. 4. Learn strategies to help them manage their courses. 5.
