You may find the following suggestions useful as you study for the first midterm. It is not intended to be comprehensive, and you should not rely on it as your only resource while preparing for the exam. Sections covered on the exam: 5.1,5.2,5.3,5.4,6.1,6.2,6.4,7.1,7.2,7.5,8.1,8.2,8.4 and 8.5. Your best study aid is to go over: (1) Practice problems in the book. (2) Team homeworks. (3) Web homeworks (solutions are available online for every section). (4) Previous exams: Exams from Winter 2009 and Fall 2009 follow the sections in the course in different order. Some problems on their first midterms contain material that we have not covered yet. You can use the following problems to study: Exam 1 Winter 2009, problems 1a), 1b),1c), 3 and 4. Exam 1 Fall 2009, problems 1,4,5,6 and 7. Exams after Fall 2009 cover the sections in the same order as this semester. The only exception is the Winter 2011 semester. In this semester, the first exam does not include section 8.5. Look at Exam 2 Winter 2011, problem 6 for an exam problem of section 8.5. (5) Pass the Integral Gateway before the exam to practice your integration skills. If you have already passed it, you can still practice using the practice Integral Gateway tests online. (6) Take advantage of the Math Lab! Visit our tutors. Ask questions and discuss your solutions with them. (7) Rest well before the exam. It will reduce your chances of making mistakes. 1 ...
