LECTURE Slide : Hello and Welcome Who am I? Dan Acland. Professor Acland. Dan. When I’m standing up here [jumps onto the stage], I’m lecturing, so I’m “Professor Acland”. But when I’m down here [jumps down], just call me “Dan.” Who are you? Introduce yourself to the person next to you. I would like to go around the room so everyone could introduce themselves, but we don’t have enough time, so I’ll have you introduce each other. So, all at once, we’re going to introduce the person sitting next to you to the whole class. Ready? Go. [Jumble of introductions in auditorium] What majors are you? Declared Economics? [A few students raise hands] Intended Economics? [Most students raise hands]. Are there any other majors? [Some students raise hands and tell professor their majors]. A little more about me, I was born in 1969 (you can do the math) in England. Graduated from Cal in 1993, and I’ve been in Berkeley ever since. After graduating, I ran a professional photo-copying service. After about eight years, I decided to attend graduate school at Goldman School of Public Policy.
