Also, exchange traded funds and hedge funds at: http://www.investopedia.com/articles/mutualfund/08/hedge-fund.asp Perhaps Baurch’s Introduction at: http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/tutorials/mutual/ Answer the questions at the end of this document out loud to your roommate, best friend or dog. In VIRTUAL STOCK EXCHANGE – buy $10,000-$40,000 of one or two or three stock mutual funds. There are many families of funds: Vanguard, Fidelity, Alliance, Janus – you can read about each at their websites (search with google – www.fidelity.com , www.vanguard.com , etc). Note that although the game has you choose a number of shares to buy, generally, you buy a dollar amount, and the fund divides that amount by the ‘price’ of a share in the fund (the NAV) to determine how many shares you’ve bought – it can be odd lots, and even fractional shares. (if stuck, try Fidelity’s Magellan Fund and/or Vanguard’s S&P 500 Index Fund). HOW IS YOUR PORTFOLIO DOING?
