Mitchell Levin September 23 rd , 2008 Wild Chicago Homelessness in the United States 1. There are many causes and reasons why people become homeless which are unemployment, mental issues, domestic violence, and many more. The different causes of homelessness are personal causes, interpersonal causes, and institutional causes. Personal causes of homelessness are unemployment and prison release and re-entry into society. Unemployment is a personal issue because the job market is down and there is too many people wanting the same job. Prison release and re-entry into society is a personal cause to homelessness because it is that person’s fault for committing that crime. That person has to face difficult times because nobody wants to hire a convicted felony. Interpersonal causes of homelessness are domestic violence and forced eviction. Domestic violence is a interpersonal cause because it Involves another person or more abusing somebody making that person go to the streets. Forced eviction is a interpersonal cause of homelessness because the government is forcing a person out of their homes to build bigger, nicer buildings. Intrapersonal cause of homelessness is the mental state of mind.
