Topic 14 : Control Variables Control variables : other variables that alter or eliminate the relationship between the IV and the DV Controled and held constant , because they effect and examine the IV and the DV. We that for every category 3 types : Source of spuriousness Intervening variable Possible conditional variable Source of spuriousness: Independent variable (source of spuriousness that affects the IV) (source of spuriousness that affects the dv) dependent Variable Remove the common cause the relationship will weaken or disappear. If we do not take into account the source of spuriousness we will end up with wrong conclusions. Two question : 1 is there any variable that might cause both the IV and the DV Does that souce of s. affects the Dv directly or through the IV Specifying the variables and their links and the relationship hold or not.
