Unformatted text preview: BIOL 1104 Dr. Paula Lemons Lecture 15: The Animal Circulatory System Learning Objectives Use the animal phylogeny to compare circulatory systems across the animal phylogeny. Use your knowledge of body plan in animals to make predictions about circulation in diverse animals. Recognize closed vs. open circulatory systems and a double circulatory system. Describe how the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets participate in homeostasis, and how their structure matches their function. Recreate the oxygen binding curve of hemoglobin and use the curve to describe how Hb allows red blood cells to deliver oxygen to tissues. Explain chemotaxis, diapedesis and phagocytosis in leukocytes, including the processes and the purpose. Explain the role of platelets in blood clotting.
