Smith School of Business University of Maryland Iliad Assessment I was in your 364 class this past Spring Semester, and I thought I would just share with you how similar the Iliad Assessment is to my current summer internship at times. Along with myself, other employees are always juggling their email accounts, meetings and presentations on different project findings. I am interning at a manufacturer of corrugated boxes outside of Philadelphia. Just yesterday, I had to complete an assignment, and I had 30 minutes to complete it before the meeting. The assignment was to be presented at the 10:30 meeting, and thus I had to work efficiently to complete the task. I just thought it was cool to see how “real” the Iliad Assessment really is and thought I’d share that with you.

Talking to some other students I was shocked how poorly most people did at the in-basket activity. I heard numbers ranging from 2-5 reports completed from almost everyone I talked to. I finished every memo in the book and even had time to write some follow-ups. I think it is an important wake up call for a lot of people. Those that use any excuse are going to be in for quite a shock when they hit the business world.
