Experiential Component Hour 1 and 2: Panel on Immigration Wednesday, October 15 Panel on Immigrants was about a group of people talking about the issue of immigration. The group talked about problems with immigration and how they don’t cause many of the problems that people think they do. The panel consisted of professors at Ramapo and President Mercer. I thought the speeches were very interesting. I realized that immigrants don’t cause as many problems in society. The panel also talked about illegal immigrants and how the reason most of them come to the United States illegally is because the process to become an American takes too long. The panel took about two hours, but a lot of information was covered. This relates to class because immigration is a social issue. In class we learned about globalization that is caused by the United States. Many immigrants come over to the United States because of globalization. There aren’t any jobs in their country so they come over to America to try and live. When immigrants do come over people get upset and complain about losing jobs. In reality it’s the United States fault that they came over in the first place.
