Nancy Shaba WS 3010- Fish 10/24/11 Women and Work Discussion Question #3- Discuss how the fact that women get pregnant, have children, and retain primary responsibility for children interferes with equal employment opportunities. This is a case in which women’s differences from men mean that they need to be treated differently from men. Is this consistent with feminists’ desire for women to be treated equally to men? It interferes with your career path because you are taking maternity leave, time off when kids get sick, and some women have to leave work right at quitting time so they can pick up their kids at day care. Feminists originally fought to be given the same opportunities wherever possible and wanted an equal rate of pay when they were doing the same job as male counterparts. They do not want to BE men. They just want to be treated equally instead of worse than men which was commonly the norm with many employers (and sometimes still is).
