Nancy Shaba Women Studies 9/20/11 Whether it is our hobbies, interests, occupations, or even our life goals, everything we choose to do with our lives has a gendered component that is so fixed in us we do not even realize it. The Social Construction of Gender was about the process of gendering and how things are looked at totally different when a man does something as opposed to when a woman does it. Patriarchy: The System focused on men’s roles and how patriarchy is an ongoing process that is continuously shaped and reshaped. After reading the articles, I looked at gender in a completely different way. Judith Lorber wrote The Social Construction of Gender . She starts the article with a metaphor about gender, stating that “talking about gender for most people is the equivalent of fish talking about water”. The main point she is trying to make is that gender is everywhere. It is so common in our world and it seems very natural. Most people think that it is produced into our genes but Judith Lorber does not agree. Instead of thinking it is bred into our genes, she thinks
