Nancy Shaba WS 3010 10/11/11 Women and Racism: Double Discrimination The article, In Search of Our Mother’s Gardens, was written by Alice Walker. The article was basically about the history of African American women and how their creative spirit managed to survive in a world filled with many problems. Even if these slaves were talented, they were not allowed to show their talent and allow their creativeness to show. I think the point that Alice Walker was trying to express is that women should eliminate boundaries and express themselves through art. Her intention was to encourage women to discover their skills and to express themselves. The article was also about how important it is to appreciate our elders to understand who we are and what we know. The next article I read is called Conventional Ignorance . It was an interesting article written by Belva Davis. Belva is a journalist and the article was about what happened after Eisonhower’s speech at the 1964 Republic National Convention.
