A signal is a characterization of information represented as a function of time or space, a sequence of symbols, or simply a hand gesture. For our purposes, we are most interested in signals that are function of time; examples: sound waves: speech, music, and the like; visual images: pictures, video; neural activities; radio waves; and others For processing, these functions are turned into sequences of numbers.
