Assignment Ethnic Groups and Discrimination One of the ethnic groups to which I belong to is Cherokee Indian. In the 19 th century historians recorded that the Cherokee Indians migrated south from the Great Lakes.(2011). The Cherokee Indians lived peacefully until the first settlers arrived in America. The Cherokee Indians became allies with the British, and they fought the Shawnee Indians who were allies with the French. The Cherokee Indians colonized in the southeastern United States. The states to which they colonized were Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.(2011). They colonized along water ways to accommodate growing their crops. The early settlers were prejudice against the Cherokee because they believed that the Cherokee were uncivilized and didn't understand the ways the Cherokee lived their lives. The early settlers tried civilize the Cherokee Indians by training them in the ways of white settlers. U.S. Agents convinced the Cherokee to leave their land and settle on isolated farm lands confining them into smaller ares in which to grow their crops. Cherokee tribes
