Checkpoint week 9 There is a lot of information about race and ethnicity in the United States that has helped me better understand race relations recently. What stands out most is the controversy and issues that have come along with the President elect, Barack Obama. Although, he is biracial people seem to overlook that fact and speak of him and judge him based solely on the basis of his skin color. In addition, it has been brought to my attention through various sources of the media that many people have a great deal of negative feelings toward him based solely on the color of his skin. This has shown me that the United States still has a long way to come when it comes to race relations and racial awareness. This has helped me better relate to people who are of a racial minority, because it appears that even though they are educated at the top universities and law schools and overcome obstacles that many white people may never accomplish, yet he is still greatly criticized and his accomplishments are often overlooked. I

Our country will continue to change and continue to grow with those who are minorities, eventually being apart of the majority. Although, there is a lot of negativity that has resulted with the President elect, there is a lot of positivity in this also. It gives people of the minority and the majority an opportunity too see that although the United States still has major improvement that we have come a long way, despite everything else. The country can best prepare for the changing race and ethnicity of its current and future citizens by being open minded and accepting of what the future holds. If Americans can keep and open mind and be positive about our growing country, then the transition will be much easier and the result will be much more positive....
