Assignment: Supporting a Position Am I for or against Capital Punishment? Let’s look at the facts. Out of the 50 states that make up the United States of America, only 35 have the death penalty, as well as the U.S. Military and the U.S. Government. The remaining 15 states have banned capital punishment, some dating the banishment as far back as 1846 (Michigan). How is an execution upheld? According to www.deathpenaltyinfo.org, there are five types of execution: lethal Injection, electrocution, gas chamber, hanging, and firing squad. The most common form of execution is lethal injection. All 35 states and the U.S. Military and Government allow this method, where only a select few states offer the remaining forms. Lethal injection was first approved by Oklahoma in 1977 as its chosen method of execution however the first execution wasn’t performed until 1982 in Texas. What is lethal injection? According to my source, the guilty party is usually bound to a gurney and heart monitors are attached.
