Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich is the story of Ehrenreich who set out to investigate the impact of welfare reform on the poor working people especially women. Some of the main characters are Barbara Ehrenreich, Lewis Lapham, Gail, Billy, Lionel, Timmy, Joan etc. The book takes us through the difficulties of low payed jobs throughout the country. In the book, Ehrenreich travels through many jobs that don’t pay her much; the story takes place in different parts of the country like in Florida, Maine and Minnesota where she has to find different jobs and lodgings to earn her living. She sets to find whether she can live off her salary and still have enough to pay the rent and emergencies for next month. In every place she has to fit herself in a very low living, and has to search for more than one job to keep up with the prices. She first sets out to Key West Florida and get herself a job of waitress in a restaurant. Soon she has to get another job as a maid to keep up with her bills. But doing two different jobs
