Blast In A Glass Eliza Cuevas Ashley Daily Samantha Minnor Amberly Orr Todd Sumida November 10, 2011 Assignment 3 Deliverable 2 – Experimental Protocol Research Question: Research Question: Does the packaging and brand image of a product effect a San Diego State University student who lives on campus purchase decision? Research Hypotheses / Expectations We think the majority of people within our sample will choose to purchase the brand name red Ritz box over the other box types we designed. We believe that a sample of the population of interest will react more favorably to a brand and package that they are more familiar with and may have had past experience with. We expect to see the sampled people base their purchase decision on our independent variables of brand image- being the Ritz logo and feelings that are associated with it; and packaging- the red box and design. Population of Interest/Sample Our population of interest consists of SDSU college students who live on campus and have been enrolled and attended a class at SDSU within the past year. Operationalization of Variables: Independent Variable(s) Operationalization Group 1: Branded and Identifiable red Ritz box and logo Group 1 will be shown a red box with the Ritz logo on it and also a box of granola bars. We will use the granola bars as a way of measuring our results- the amount of people that would rather purchase a red Ritz branded cracker box compared to those who would purchase the other types of cracker boxes over the granola bars. We will ask each participant which product they would rather purchase.

Group 2: Generic Brand of crackers in a red box Group 2 will be shown a red box with a brand name we created and also a box of granola bars. We will ask each participant which product they would rather purchase. Group 3: Ritz brand name and white box Group 3 will be shown a white box of crackers with the Ritz logo on it and also a box of granola bars. We will ask each participant which product they would rather purchase.
