What is CMC? Computer-mediated communication is the exchange of messages carried through an intervening system of digital electronic storage and transmitted between two or more people. Digital information is transmitted in a numerical format based on only two values (0 and 1). Analog information is transmitted in a continuous numerical format. CMC uses the Internet, a system of networks that connects computers, and the World Wide Web, an Internet service that uses hypertext markup language.
