Cell reproduction: Overview - Cell reproduction is the process by which genetic material is transmitted from parent to progeny. - There are two types of reproduction: asexual and sexual. - Somatic cells reproduce asexually by the process of Mitosis where the daughter cells are identical to the parent cell. - Germ cells (sex cells ) reproduce sexually by the process of Meiosis . During meiosis the genetic material of two individuals is mixed so that the resulting daughter cells are similar to the parent but not identical.
