Areal Differentiation and Integration: Integration: describe and explain linkages or connections between places Differentiation: describe and explain differences between places The spatial emphasis distinguishes geography from social sciences. Geographic Terms:- Location : Absolute location : precisely defined place according to a predefined system (ex: state lines, latitude, longitude, postal locations) Relative location : relation of a place or a activity in relation to others (ex: directions to library; the neighborhoods of Manhattan)- Distance: Absolute distance : spatial separation from one unit to another (ex: mile or km: standardized units) Relative distance : spatial separation defined in terms of experience.
