PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY Cultural landscapes : visible, material expression of human settlement. Often defined in relation to concept of space – an abstract notion that fixes the location of places; space as nondescript; spatial sciences Place comes into existence when people give space meaning; concept associated with Humanistic Geography (Yi-Fu Tuan) Geographies of performance and practice: Ex: Chelsea’s Place; regulars at a bar. Physical Geography: Examines the natural processes occurring at the Earth’s surface that provide the physical setting for human activities. Geomorphology : Science of the connection between the inner earth and earth surface processes and landforms. Divergent and Convergent Plate Boundaries Divergent : African Rift Valley; separated Convergent: Himalayan Mountains; combined Half of the world’s geo stone landforms are housed in Yellowstone National Park.
