Disability Assignment Today, my friend and I “dined in the dark” at Moe’s. The activity was very interesting and unlike any other that I have ever experienced. Jake was blinded first and we approached the counter to order. I first asked him what kind of food he wanted – whether it is a taco, burrito, quesadilla, etc. Then when he told me, I had to read what was in every type of burrito until he could decide what to order. Once we were seated and the food was put out, I had to explain where all of his food was on the table using the “plate clock” method. Everything took longer than it usually would for him to eat a meal, and at times I found myself getting annoyed and frustrated. Jake said that the food tasted different with his eyes closed. He even knocked over his water cup once when he was moving his hand to try to find where it was located on the table. I also had to tell him if he had food on his mouth because otherwise he would never know and would walk around with guacamole on his chin.
