Fredrick Thrasher was concerned with or how gangs developed. He conducted field studies on the formation of gangs and the inner workings of gang communities. He conducted his research through personal contact with members and other people who studied gang activities through census, court records and other documentation. Thrasher interacted personally with the help of students with the gang members and utilized field notes to but to comprise his report. In his report he explained gang process,types of gangs, the roles of girls in the gang, the different situation of delinquency withinthe different gangs. Thrashers “The Gang” is one used to study when the study of a boy’s gang life is needed even though the publication is over 20 years old. (Moyer, Pg.85, 86-87, 92.)
