02:57 CHAPTER 8 Focal point- the generic term that refers to any place in the retail setting where  emphasis has been placed to attract the shopper  Island display- a merchandise presentation or fixture that can be approached from all  sides and give the shopper access to the merchandise from any side  Riser or platform- the card, sign, or panel that rises over the product presentation  whether the merchandise is stacked on counter or arranged on the floor Counter Counter cards- small cards with the name of the product and possibly specific  information about the product. Located on the counter or at the point of sale near the  assembled stock of product. An easeled card, on the counter, that provides information Counter mats- messages printed on paper, cardboard, vinyl, or fabric and used as flat  mats or runners on counters or bars Counter units- any one of many specialized merchandisers or displays set on a counter,  ledge, or table and used to display and/or hold  small merchandise. By the nature of its  location and use, it is usually small (under 3 feet), narrow, and portable. Ideally it should  not obstruct the salesperson’s view of the customer and the store. Counter units should  facilitate the handling and sampling of merchandise and, if possible, prevent pilfering.  The units may be constructed of cardboard, wood, metal, plastics, or any combination of  materials  Display cases Display card- a card with copy that is attached to or elevated near the stock of product  on the floor, on the shelf, or on the counter Display carton- a carton made of corrugated board or solid fiberboard that is printed on  both sides before being assembled. It is designed to be opened and folded in such a  manner that is interior printing carries the message, illustration, or decorative elements  that will enhance the promotion—and the products contained within the carton

Museum case- can serve as a counter or demonstration area; consist of a column or  pedestal (usually rectangular) with five-sided glass case on top. Viewed from all sides  and small platforms or risers can be used to enhance presentation  Ledge- raised about 5 feet from floor and often an “island”, freestanding on selling floor;  top surface of backup storage unit behind selling counter; two-sided storage unit about 3  or 4 feet deep by 5 feel tall with bins, shelves, or cabinets, surrounded by counters  Shadowbox- small display windows outside a store or located inside the store. They are  often no more than 3 or 4 feet tall, by 2 or 3 feet wide and completely enclosed. Used for
