We recommend that you take a large piece of paper and draw a map that shows how the various pathways interconnect. Also review the key regulatory step in each pathway and consider how this affects connected pathways. Lastly consider where in the cell a particular pathway occurs. If connection of two pathways requires passage across a membrane, review how this is achieved. 1. By means of a diagram, trace the metabolic relationships among the compounds listed below. Try to organize your diagram in such a way as to show the intra- or extra-mitochondrial location of the compounds. • acetyl CoA • NAD + , NADH • ADP • NADP + , NADPH • amino acids • nucleoside diphosphate sugars • ATP • ( e.g. UDP-glucose) • carbon dioxide (CO 2 )• oxaloacetate (OA) • citrate • oxygen (O 2 ) • cytochromes (cyt)
