Unformatted text preview: Blackfin Speedway Workshop Lab 2 VDSP++ Debugging Demo Using: Purpose: For this demo we will create a project implementing a FIR filter algorithm, debug source files, discuss breakpoints, and demonstrate VDSP++’s profiling and plotting features. The idea is to become more familiar with the tool and it’s capabilities. It is not necessary to know the details or implementation specifics of the FIR filter. It was simply chosen because it is a common processing requirement of many systems today and it happens to demonstrate some of the plotting and data viewing capabilities of the tools very well. Steps: 1. Click the Windows Start button and select Programs, Analog Devices, VisualDSP++ 4.0, and VisualDSP++ Environment. Visual DSP++ opens: 2. In order to run any project, you need to have the correct session open. If the last open session on you VisualDSP++ tools was a BF-537 Simulator, skip to step 3 below. If not, utilize Session => New Session to set up a new session: Select the BF-537 simulator and processor as follows: Click OK. 3. If the Output window appears at the bottom of the screen and the Disassembly window appears on the right, skip to step 4. If not, add these by utilizing the View menu. After you are done, your screen should look as follows: 4. Let’s begin creating our project. Click on File => New => Project. The new project wizard will appear. In the Name box type my_fir and under Directory browse to the computer’s “My Document” folder and under that select the Avnet_blackfin_fir_proj. Click Next. 5. On the Output Type menu that appears click on the ADSP-BF537 as shown below: Click Next. 6. When asked if you wish to add customized startup code to be included in your project, select NO. You will see the following “Wizard Completed” window: Click Finish. 7. A new project window now appears on the left containing the my_fir project and three empty folders: Source Files, Linker Files, and Header Files. We are now ready to add files to the project. From the Project Menu select Project => Add to Project => File(s)… as shown: (Alternatively, right click on Source Files folder in the Project window and click “Add File(s) to Folder”) If not already in the Avnet_blackfin_fir_proj directory, browse to this directory under My Documents and double click on the Source Files folder to open. Highlight all files by utilizing the Shift key and click on “Add”. The source files will be added to the Sources Files folder and the header files will be added to the Header Files folders on the project window. 8. Now that we have our files added, are ready to build our project. Before we do that we want to check a couple of settings. Click on the Settings => Preferences …. : Click on General and make sure that the “Reset targets before load” , “Run to main after load”, and “Load executable after build” are checked as follows: Click Ok. 9. From the Project menu click on Build Project or simply click the button on your toolbar. on your toolbar....
