Chapter 3 Study Guide Equal employment opportunity 108: EEO The government’s attempt to ensure that all individuals have an equal opp for employment, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, or natl origin. 14 th amendment p. 110: Provides equal protection for all citizens and requires due process in state action. Originally applied to only blacks. Only decisions or actions of govt or govt-related agencies can be violations of 14 th amendment. Enforced by court system. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 p.111: Forbids discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or natl. origin. Applies to: employers with 15+ employees working 20 or more weeks per year; labor unions; and employment agencies. Enforced by EEOC. Age discrimination act (ADEA) p.111: Prohibits discrim in employment against ppl 40 and over. Applies to: employers with 15+ employees working 20 or more weeks per year; labor unions; and employment agencies. Enforced by EEOC
