1 Chapter 10 Solution RQ9. 0 A (275Hz), air flows in and out of the f-holes. RQ10. The first two resonances of a violin bridge are 3000 and 6000Hz. The lower resonance is due to a rocking-bending motion, and the upper one is due to a symmetrical up-and-down motion. RQ16. Most electric guitars have at least two pickups for each string. These pickups, located at different points along the string, sample different strengths of the various harmonics. The front pickup (nearest the fretboard) generates the strongest signal at the fundamental frequency, whereas the rear pickup (nearest the bridge) is most sensitive to the higher harmonics. RQ17. Semitone intervals on the scale of equal temperament correspond to frequency ratios of 1.05946. This is very near the ratio18:17, which has led to the well-known rule of eighteen.
