Editor’s Page: The Pahala Girls Four young girls speak about how they are pressured to fit their gender role expectations and what they suffered. Each feels that she has lost certain control over herself under such oppression. Written by Tom Lee In this day and age, few young guys and girls would care about the so called “gender role expectations”. People can dress and behave as they wish. They are not expected to follow any idea or guidelines in particular, not even the fashion waves can make that happen. Ultimately what this means is that the traditional ideas have died and people are now open minded to any practice. The modern minds see no problem with a guy go shop in a supermarket or stay home to cook the meal. It is also acceptable for woman to serve in the military. As a trickle down effect, the adolescents are given more freedom in choices of what they can do. Girls are given equal opportunity in sports and academics.
