Katherine Lau BUAD 304 Section 14723 Judy Tolan Assignment 4 October 27, 2009 Chapter 14 Case Incident 1: Dressing For Success 1. Do you think Cohen had a right to be offended? Why or why not? Cohen undoubtedly has the right to be offended, however I do not think that it was appropriate to do so. While it seems as though it is unfair that she was unable to attend the meeting after she received no prior warnings about her questionable dress code, the fact remains that she is a member of a company that has particular dress standards and it is her responsibility to abide by their rules. As an employee of an organization, one is required to follow the rules that are in place, whether or not they like them. If Cohen has a problem with the dress code, she cannot expect the company to change their policy to suit her desires. I think it is her responsibility to conform with the company’s culture and their standards for professionalism. 2. In explaining why she was offended, Cohen argued, “People my age are taught to express themselves, and saying something negative about someone’s fashion is saying something negative about them.” Do you agree with Cohen?
