English 1 Fall 2007 PORTFOLIOS, CONFERENCES, AND FINAL EXAM The final portfolio will consist of three out of your four essays revised into your best possible work, along with a fourth essay (see Assignment 5 : evaluating your writing and portfolio), and one “informal essay” from the various other writings you’ve done for class (in-class writings, homework, quizzes, even a short piece from another class). The portfolio will consist of just the final, polished versions of your essays. Use Chapters 8, 9, 11, and 12 from The Writer’s Way for ideas to expand and cut material as well as techniques for stylistic and formal editing. Also, use Keys for Writers for questions of grammar, mechanics, and citations. Polish your essays to present the following: your most eloquent, active, succinct prose clear, organized, well-supported analysis and argument texts free of spelling, punctuation, grammatical, and typographical errors; and properly paginated (each essay separately or all together as a book—your choice)
