To: The President of Purdue University Subject: Making Purdue’s dormitories more sustainable We are writing to you to address the sustainability of Purdue’s dormitories. Currently the living conditions here at Purdue are failing to be self-sufficient and environmentally friendly. Recycling is overlooked, water and electricity are wasted, and the environment is continually polluted each day. We want to see not only the campus as a whole become “green”, but the dormitories become more sustainable. In order for the campus to go “green” we feel small changes are needed first and that the dormitories are a perfect place to start. By creating environmentally friendly dorms the entire campus will soon change as well. The goals we want to achieve in order to make dormitories sustainable are to reduce the amount of electricity and water being used, per dorm, by at least 10%. By reducing the amount of electricity and water used, Purdue will leave a smaller environmental footprint on society; moreover, we will become an environmentally friendly university. A problem in the dormitories is the amount of water used by students. When there is no regulation in place for water use, students will not think to conserve the water and will use it wastefully. Our idea is to have a limited number of swipes for an allotted shower time on each students I.D. card. Each student in the dormitories will be given a certain amount of tokens each week which they will use to take showers. There will
