The Assignment Speech is a complex acoustic signal that exploits much of the audible range of frequencies (20-20,000 Hz). One of the most salient features of speech, as produced by an individual speaker, is the fundamental frequency (F0). F0 varies across individuals, providing the perception of a different “pitch” for each individual. A typical range for pitch is from 50-300 Hz. As a general rule, male speakers exhibit a lower F0 than do female speakers, and F0 tends to drop with age.
