Nick Poggetti TESP 50 Essay 2 Vance-Trembath Distinguishing Catholicism All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics. Similarly all Protestants, Anglicans, and Latter Day Saints are Christians, but not all Christians fall into the category of those denominations. There are many distinctive qualities that each denomination possesses that separate beliefs, customs, and traditions from each other. Regarding Catholicism, there are three main characteristics that allow us to make the distinction between Catholicism and other Christian denominations. Many other denominations possess these exact qualities in their own way which creates an individual likeness, and so too has Catholicism. It has adapted and configured them in such a way that no other denomination is alike. These principles are known as sacramentality, mediation, and communion. When understood, these three principles allow for a clearer grasp on the differences between Catholicism and non-Catholic denominations. Sacramentality is the first of the three principles and it explains God’s presence. God is present everywhere. He is present in the visible surrounding us, and the invisible surrounding us. He is within us and all around us. God is present within the entire created order. This fundamental notion basically states that all reality is in the presence of God. When I think of the principle of Sacramentality a very famous parable comes to mind,
