Johnathon SmithJanuary 22, 2019AP English“...Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressor.” This quote is compelling because the quote is so true. You can never expect the same rights or freedom that others receive because you’re most likely not going to get it. Overall, the quote is basically saying that freedom has to be fought for. It will not be given to no one, so therefore, everyone must fight for it. As human beings, we’re all free and equal, but in the real world we need to struggle in order to gain and secure our civic freedoms. One example that I actually experienced myself was when I had to fight for the right pay. So over the summer I was making $7.50, which was how much a bagger made, while I was a cashier. I had been a cashier since the April before, but still made a bagger’s pay. I decided to talk to my manager about it, but she didn’t believe that I was on the cash register for that long.
