Nick Poggetti 1/24/11 MKTG 188 Jim Grishaw Tweetation Jim Grishaw, the manager of FPGA/PLD router design at Cisco gave an insightful presentation with a different point of view than our previous presenter, Rob Sloan. Because Rob was a marketing manager he was able to tell us how to use some useful tips on marketing in general. Grishaw provided us with a different angle because he is someone we might actually have the opportunity to sell to if we entered the business to business segment. Meeting a potential customer was a very interesting way to switch things up in the classroom. He started by breaking down the two contact points at Cisco: the engineers and the corporate side. Being able to market to both these contact points is crucial, because each side gives a large potential segment of customers. It was interesting the way Jim Grishaw separated these two categories. He explained marketing to the engineers similar to how I view business to consumer marketing. You can entice the engineer with faster, better, cheaper parts. Developing lasting relationships
