Comments Page 1 Comments - Ratings by Lookup The Data worksheet in this example contains a simple column of numbers in the Values column. The aim is to associate with each number a rating - say "very high", "high", "middle", etc. Perhaps these numbers are scores on some kind of test, for example. It is possible to do this using an if function - but if there are many ratings categories the if function becomes very unwieldy. In fact nested if functions have a limit of about 7 functions. The better way to do this is to use a LOOKUP function. You need to construct separately the data that the function will "look up". In this case you need a table of numbers defining the boundaries of the ratings along with the associated rating.
