(1) (7pts) Recall the Aeropress Coffee and Espresso maker shown in class and in figure 1. Answer the following questions, and clearly state any assumptions you make (assume that for the condition being examined, the aeropress is 2/3 full of coffee and 1/3 full of air as shown in the diagram. Also assume that the amount of fluid is constant inside the piston chamber.): (a) Calculate the approximate volume of air and coffee if the absolute pressure inside the piston chamber is atmospheric pressure. (b) If the pressure is increased by one atmosphere, what will be the volume of the coffee? What will be the volume of the air? Figure 1. The Aeropress coffee maker for problem 1 1 2 DUE: FRIDAY FEB 10TH, 2012 (2) (3pts) A fun demonstration of surface tension is to put a circular loop of string on a water surface. The string will rest on the surface due to surface tension (figure 2). After the string has settled, a small amount of soap is dropped inside the loop. The loop of string almost immediately becomes a taught circle on the water surface (figure 3). Describe as completely as possible what is happening in this demonstration. Draw at least one diagram to help show the phenomena at play. You are encouraged to look online for help. Figure 2. The loop of string before soap is dropped into the loop. Figure 3. The loop of string after a drop of soap is placed inside the loop. (3) The following questions from the Munson textbook should completely attempted and handed in. Your grade for each will be (2 pts) if the problem is appropriately completed, (1 pt) if an incomplete attempt is handed in and (0 pts) if you do not attempt the problem. (a) Munson Question 1.97 (b) Munson Question 1.101 (c) Munson Question 1.100 (d) Munson Question 1.103 ...
