10/12/10 Peer Harassment - Different dimensions of peer relationships: o Clique (small group who are all friends with each other) versus crowd (larger grouping who share characteristics) o Peer= same age individuals (people who are operating in the same way out in the world) o Well known versus unknown people o Liked versus disliked o Friend versus enemy o Bully versus victim - What is bullying o A student being bullied is when a person is being exposed repeatedly over time to negative actions on the part of one or more students o There is also an imbalance in strength (different from fighting) - Types of bullying o Physical aggression ( most worrisome) Hitting Kicking Shoving o Verbal aggression (most common) Teasing/ name calling Insults Ridicule o Non-verbal / non-physical (very prevalent, just as harmful) By standers Rumors/gossiping Exclusion/isolation Property theft/damage - Why does bullying occur? o
