Hypothalamus: nervous system and endocrine system integrate o Thalamus – central to the brain – gets some of all data ascending and descending o Regulates endocrine system o Pituitary Gland: Posterior: extension of hypothalamus – ADH and Oxytocin Anterior: Secrete diff hormones directly into the blood Tropic hormones: regulate function of endocrime organs Female Reproductive System o Hypothalamus releases GnRH (gonadotropin releasing hormone) through portal blood vessels o GnRH goes to anterior pituitary o Anterior pituitary releases LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle- stimulating hormone) FSH: stimulates development of ovarian follicle Ovarian follicle starts to make estrogen Low levels of estrogen inhibit secretion of pituitary hormones
