TitleThe Effect of Rate of the Oxidation of Catechol by the Change in Temperature of Water and Catechol Within 100 Seconds.IntroductionThe alternative hypothesis is the change in temperature will have a significant effect on the rate of oxidation of catechol. The null hypothesis is that the change in temperature will have no significant effect on therate of oxidation of catechol. I predict that an increase in the temperature will result in an increase in the rate of oxidation of catechol. Most enzyme-catalyzed reactions increase as the temperature increases. Theoretically, as the temperature rises, the rate of reaction should also speed up. (Worthington, 2019) MethodsData CollectionCatecholase was extracted from potatoes. Blanks were used to calibrate a spectrometer in respect to the temperature being tested. All blanks consisted of 4mL of room temperature water and 500µL catecholase. Water was mixed with catechol and catecholase was added at the end to form benzoquinone. The spectrometer was used to measure the absorbance of benzoquinone. Results were then recorded.
