Lee 1 Allison Lee Ms. Helana Brigman English 2000, Section 104 29 January 2010 Annotated Bibliography Rough Draft Clemmit, Marcia. Cyber Socializing. CQ Researcher. 16, (265-48) 28 July 2006. Online Database. 27 January 2010 < http://library.cqpress.com.libezp.lib.lsu.edu/cqresearcher/cqresrre2006072800. > Clemmit explains to us the use of Internet socializing has become extremely dangerous. “New social networking networks such as Facebook and MySpace raise more troubling privacy issues than traditional Internet chat rooms”, which have caused a rise in parent and law-enforcement to take more action on the potential risks. The article even tells how a 14 year-old, filed a $30 million law-suit against MySpace for being sexually assaulted by a 19 year-old she had met from MySpace. The article goes to shows that it is dangerous because you don’t have to verify your actual age, which can lead to more serious actions. This is a useful article because it shows that there are other websites, not just online dating websites, that can be dangerous. Ellison, B. Nicole. Gibbs, L. Jennifer. Heino, D. Rebecca. “Self-Presentation in Online Personals: The Role of Anticipated Future Interaction, Self-Disclosure, and Perceived Success in Internet Dating” Communication Research 33; (152-77) The research done by Ellison, Gibbs, and Heino concentrating on how self-disclosure plays an important role in how online dating can be successful. I find the article is helpful because it explains why people feel comfortable using the Internet as a potential relationship finder. The authors “perceived online dating success [is] predicted by four dimensions of self-disclosure (honesty, amount, intent, and valence).” It is also believed that the “new iteration of internet-facilitated matchmaking is unique because of its broader user base and the substantively different capabilities available to users”, verses personal ads, video dating, and other dating possibilities before online dating.
