Unformatted text preview: 1 REVISED SYLLABUS: ENGLISH 2000, SECTION 104 (MWF, 10:40-11:30) 22-M TURN IN ESSAY SKELETON, ESSAY #1 ONLINE & IN-CLASS Quiz; discuss sample essay skeleton and students essay skeletons before turning in. Answer any remaining questions students may have for the first essay on how to cite sources (well look at the Burger Handout and OWL resources online), organization, staying neutral in a complicated topic, etc. HOMEWORK : Work on first draft of explanation of an issue paper. Submit online (Moodle) before class and print 2 stapled/clipped hardcopies (1 to turn in, and 1 to work on in groups). Print 3 copies of Reader Response sheet from our Moodle page. 24-W Essay #1/Explanation of an Issue: 1 st Draft DUE!/WRITING WORKSHOP No Quiz; work in small groups on your explanation of an issue paper, essay #1; I will visit around the room and answer questions you may have and look at samples. Sign-up for paper conferences. 26-F No Class. Paper Conferences (held in my office, Allen 2) HOMEWORK : Continue working on first essay. Mar . 1-M No Class. Paper Conferences (held in my office, Allen 2) HOMEWORK : Continue working on first essay. 3-W No Class. Paper Conferences (held in my office, Allen 2) HOMEWORK : Continue working on first essay. 5-F Essay #1/Explanation of an Issue: DUE! No Quiz; turn in final draft of explanation of an issue paper ONLINE (Moodle page) BEFORE class as well as a hardcopy in class. I will not accept unclipped/unstapled drafts . HOMEWORK : Read Literary Analyses ( Norton , 143-152); read and PRINT short story by Eudora Welty, No Place for You, My Love on our Moodle page. 8-M Quiz; discuss literary analyses and No Place for You, My Love; what are the key features of literary analysis? How is this genre different/similar to other genres we have worked with?
